we rented a big car so that the four of us and my mom and then elisa when we pick her up in chicago could all fit in one car. there was a miscommunication about what we needed, so we ended up getting a great big town car! it was a plush ride for sure!
we stopped for lunch and a stretch in south bend and walked around the notre dame campus a bit. it is so pretty there!
here's the famous 'touchdown Jesus' that can be seen from inside the football stadium. if you don't know what it is, WATCH RUDY!
we made it to chicago without any problems, found a parking garage and walked to the american girl store. elisa had taken the train in from the airport and met us there. unfortunately, the weather turned cold and rainy and the infamous wind started right then. but we met up and enjoyed the store! (which is totally crazy and huge by the way!) when jess was making her final decisions about what she wanted to get, she totally bottomed out and she got sick in the blink of an eye! so we gathered up her purchases, and i carried her the several city blocks back to the car to giver her some medicine. she was so sick! fever, earache, body aches, tired and just miserable! mom and i went to the car, and the others visited a few more shops along the walk. by the time they were done, she was feeling better! almost a whole turn-around after the medicine got into her! but we had had enough, so we just headed out of the city to batavia where we were staying for the wedding.
she put a sticker up for cleveland!
here is the matching clothes she got for her and juliet.
then- saturday morning, joe gets a frantic call from the office that he has to go in and fix a performance report or something like that, that had a monday deadline or else they got huge fines! what can we do? so, joe catches the first flight to cleveland and i run him to the airport while mom and elisa played with the kids.
we went to a great riverside park in town and explored before the wedding.
this was a cool footbridge that we crossed over the flowing river. that's elisa in the yellow slicker ;)
and then it was time for the wedding! mom did my hair with fancy braids and a bun (my hair is super long so it's fun to do creative stuff with it!) as we were walking out of the hotel, all gussied up in our nice clothes (i had to buy a whole new outfit since all our things are in storage!), and my shoe breaks!!! ahhhh!! so i limp into the church and kind of shuffle walk into the church and down the receiving line afterwards! but after the pictures, we walked to a drug store around the corner and i got some epoxy for my shoe.
the ceremony was absolutely beautiful by the way! it was a very simple and elegant wedding. and the best part- the kids were absolutely perfect for the whole thing- thank goodness!!
we had a little time before the reception started, so we hopped back to the hotel, i fixed my shoe and the kids used up some energy. when we got to the reception hall, jonny started complaining about his REALLY loose tooth! if you ever wonder where the expression 'it's like pulling teeth' comes from, watch jonny and i during this traumatic time! he freaks out!! we went to the ladies room with cups of ice and napkins, we went outside (in the rain) so that we wouldn't make a commotion, i tried ignoring it, but he wouldn't eat! oh my goodness!
caitlin (the bride, my cousin) did a really great job including the kids, she had coloring books and crayons for them on the table and a special kids menu for them too. but, we ended up having to box up the meals and take everything back to the hotel with us pretty early. jess was feeling better, but jonny's tooth was having issues, and they had just had enough i think. i felt bad leaving early, but that's what you've got to do sometimes!
sorry this picture is whited out, but it's unlce matt and aunt sumi with jessy.
luckily, they fell right asleep when we got back to the hotel. and that tooth finally fell out in the middle of the night! i could hardly keep my eyes open either! it was quite a day! but the trip wasn't over yet!
