alligator alley

we had to take joe to the airport on the gulf coast for work one weekend, and there's only 1 road that connects the east and west coasts of florida. there are others, one that goes way north, and the other that follows along the whole south coast. so, the one that goes straight across is called alligator alley cause it crosses straight through the everglades. you can see a ton of gators from the car as you drive, they just sit out on the rocks and stuff. we pulled the car off the side of the road to take a closer look.

at first there were only like 3, but as joe started throwing rocks in, more and more came to see the commotion, we ended up having almost 20 near-by. and these weren't puny little gators, they were very good sized! they're totally wild, it's protected land, and there are also wild cougars (but only like 100 are left in the wild), wild hogs, and tons of other animals. the water is that color from the decomposing grass and foliage under the water. in some places around town, the water in the toilets is a yellow color, i guess it's pretty expensive to get the color out, but it's apparently safe!
